"I live local and used to work full time. I gave up work due to my mental health. I became very low at one point and took an overdose. A little bit after this event the CLC was suggested to me. Because of my mental health I became quite isolated also due to lack of routine from not working anymore."
What were you doing before you started attending CLC?
My mood was very low but I tried to keep busy. I got a dog and that helped me get out more.
What have you attended since becoming a member?
-Creating Better Chances project
What has helped since becoming a member?
The counselling, well being courses, acupuncture and Creating Better Chances project helped me a lot. I was also involved in organising a beach party from scratch and I never would have thought I would have been able to do that. I would recommend to just come along, you don't know if you don't try. There is such a variety of activities, you just need to find one that you like.
What would you say to others about CLC?
It's a good thing in Prestwich which is close to transport and in a good place. What's not to like? There is so much to offer. Come along and join in, you don't know what you're missing.
What have you achieved since you became member of CLC?
I have gained much more confidence. I'm getting out of the house more. It resulted in me doing volunteering. I helped research/plan and deliver a Beach party that I didn't think I was capable of doing.
“I’ve been coming to the Creative Living Centre for quite a few months now. I was hesitant at first obviously not knowing what to expect when I got there. Since coming I’ve completed all the courses that have been on offer, that is Health Eating, Think Better Feel Better, Boost Your Confidence, Journey to a better self and yoga and I’ve had the acupuncture which has helped tremendously. Overall all the courses have been brilliant.
I’ve learnt to control my anxiety, breathing techniques I even know how to do a hand massage, everybody gets offered a hand massage now when they come to my house.
I now take more time to relax, I’ve bought a yoga mat I’m not professional but know how to relax now, my confidence has improved tremendously. I’m thinking more for myself to put myself first rather than run round after everybody else.
I now go to a tap dancing class on a Thursday I would never have had the confidence to do that. Coming to courses itself, getting out of bed and having somewhere to go to meet that group of people has been tremendous. I‘ve made lots of changes I’ve lost 8lbs in weight; we did a big item on diabetes which frightened that life out of me. It was brilliant the way it was explained I’ve cut out a lot of sugar from my diet. From the other course I’ve learned to take more time for myself and relax and how to control my breathing, I manage quite a lot of things to think and stop before my head goes before I carry on.
I would definitely recommend the courses, I’ve recommended it to a neighbour of mine and she has now come and done a couple of courses.”
