We welcomed back some familiar faces and some new volunteers from Lloyds banking group on Tuesday 5th March. The team were tasked with tidying up our allotment plot at Highfield allotments ready for the new planting season and the beginning of our allotment group this spring.
The team did an amazing job completing the sorting, sweeping, organising and clearing during the morning. They even alphabetised and listed all of our seeds! We hope that this work combined with our current growing vegetables course with @sowthecity and recruitment of an allotment support worker Work with us (creativelivingcentre.org.uk) will make for a plentiful season of growing to be then brought to our kitchen for Lisa and volunteer team to create some beautiful meals for our Wednesday lunch. The team spent the afternoon helping clear out and reorganise our art room which was incredibly helpful! Our arts materials get used not only for ‘Arts for all’ on a Monday but also art therapy and other sessions throughout the week including ‘Ladies support group’ on Thursdays. We want to extend a MASSIVE thank you to the team from Lloyds, they have helped to prepare spaces that our members value greatly and will contribute to their wellbeing. We hope to welcome them back again next year!

WOW WOW WOW!!!
Our crowdfunding project ended today and we have been absolutely overjoyed at the amount of wonderful people who have pledged / donated to our allotment group project. We want to extend a HUGE thank you to all the members, volunteers, trustees, staff, external partners and everyone else who has kindly donated, promoted, attended our fundraising events and put the word out about this project, We smashed our initial target of £1000 and ended up so close to our stretch target finishing on £1415! What this means is that we are able to pay for a 6 week ‘Introduction to growing’ course delivered by our friends @sowthecity and we will also be able tool up our allotment group when it is up and running in early spring. In the longer term this will provide the centre and our members with produce grown by the group to be harvested and end up being used by our new café lead Lisa in our Wednesday lunch service. This is a low cost hot vegetarian meal provided every week for members, staff and volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with us at CLC and getting involved in the allotment / garden projects then please get in touch with us through the link below. |
